Silverfast or vuescan to scan film11/30/2023 ![]() So I decided to give the Epson another go. I had seen great scans that others made with the V850 which is why I bought one in the first place. When I bought my Cambo 4x5 camera however, I quickly realized that using a DSLR to scan those large negatives is far from ideal. And more control over the final look of my scans. And with Negative Lab Pro to convert my negatives to positives, I almost instantly got better looking results. In any case, I had not used it much because shortly after I bought the Epson, I found out about the Negative Lab Pro plug-in for Adobe Lightroom, and how to create scans with a digital camera.ĭSLR scanning has its problems too, but it was so much faster. Sure, I love working with old camera's - but the clunky user interface of both programs will quickly remind you that not everything that's old is nice to work with. I tried both Epson scan and Silverfast scanning software - included with the V850. Click here. Before I got into DSLR scanning with my digital camera, I bought an Epson V850 to scan my negatives. Since I’m in the position of having what I consider to be excellent hardware but no software to utilize it, my requirements are “loose” rather than firm. But both machines have since been sent to the recycle bin and Nikon Scan no longer runs on “modern” versions of Windows or Mac OS so I’m in the market for software to support Round 2 of my film scanning work. Software functionality was almost identical and I finished the project using the eMac. Things went well for a year or so but a stubborn conflict between Nikon Scan and SQL Server suddenly started and helped me decide to abandon the XP machine and install the software on an eMac. The project began using the Nikon Scan application supplied with my Nikon Coolscan 5000 Film Scanner that was originally hosted on a Windows XP machine. I knew this issue would eventually need to be addressed ever since completing my slide and negative scanning project in 2011.
